Based on the Kingdom’s Vision (2030) and its three main axes: a vibrant society, a prosperous economy, and an ambitious nation, the Department of General Sciences and English at Almaarefa University seeks to achieve the highest standards of excellence in terms of developing the skills of new students at the university by providing them with the skills they need in their university life and providing quality education in a stimulating learning environment that fosters creativity and innovation, establishing a foundation for the student's university journey towards excellence and success. A student's first year at the university is an entry point through which new students enter the university level to enhance their abilities necessary to pursue their lifelong learning on the basis of extensive knowledge in various academic disciplines and diverse professional contexts

the mission

Given that the first year of a university student is the first stop on his university journey, which we at Al-Maarifa University aspire to be an enjoyable journey full of benefits and gaining experiences, the university is mainly interested in this year in providing its students with the skills necessary for university study through two main axes:

Unit I :

Providing the male/female student with basic English language skills, study skills, communication skills, and computer skills with the aim of developing and enhancing their abilities for academic achievement during their university studies.

The English language program at Almaarefa University includes three courses in basic English language skills and two specialized English language courses, which are taught by a group of distinguished, qualified teachers whose first language is English from the United States of America and Britain, who always strive to enrich the students’ outcomes and raise their level. Using best practices and all modern means and technologies.

Unit II:

  • Preparing the student for university studies by teaching a number of science courses (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, statistics) that aim to reduce the knowledge gap between the educational outcomes at the secondary school level and what the student is expected to perform at the university level and enhance the students’ ability to think critically, develop their communication and mathematics skills, stimulate their creativity, and enriching their knowledge of the social, cultural, and natural worlds in which they live.

Objectives

  • In addition to what was indicated above, the student’s study of general preparation courses aims to raise the students’ cognitive and skill level and prepare them psychologically and socially for effective participation in the university community and integration into university studies, which gives them the opportunity for distinguished performance in their future specializations through:

    1. Addressing the knowledge gap among students applying to university from secondary schools.
    2. The student’s mastery of English language skills.
    3. The student’s mastery of the main computer skills and applications and statistical analysis skills.
    4. The student’s mastery of university study skills and communication skills.
    5. The student’s mastery of search skills in information sources.
    6. Helping the student to integrate into the university community and actively participate in cultural, social and sporting activities.
    7. Developing and enhancing the student’s self-learning skill and ability to participate and learn cooperatively.
    8. Helping the student to invest his intellectual energies in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
    9. Providing the student with general life skills, relationships, communication, and personal planning.
