Hackthon Humanitarian Action and Sustainable Development [1]

It is a competition in which specialists, social, programmers, engineers and young people interested in different disciplines meet for the purpose of taking pioneering innovative work in the sectors of humanitarian work: food security and nutrition, health, accommodation and non-food items, education, water and environmental sanitation, early recovery, protection, camp management and coordination, emergency communications, logistics. This is to develop sustainable solutions to reduce the challenges facing donors, United Nations organizations and civil society organizations in implementing relief and humanitarian projects in advanced and innovative ways to provide services to beneficiaries in disaster and crisis areas.

Hackathon goals

A group of students of the College of Pharmacy at Umm Al-Qarayya University passed through schools to educate students and train them on methods to prevent against the Corona virus and precautionary measures by using the beam of community knowledge accompanied by the principal of the school A/Hilal Al-Maliki and Director General of Schools Dr. Muhammad Al-Shaeri.

Third international conference of the Saudi Health Administration Association 2022

Almaarefa University represented by students of the health faculty participated in the third international conference of the Saudi Health Administration Association 2022 under the title "The Future of Health Facilities", which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel [8].

Universities Football League

Almaarefa University participates in the organization of the soccer league of the universities in Saudi Arabia, in addition to the fact that several dates will be played on the university field with free access for the other universities and the local community that want to attend the event [9].

Taekwondo championship

Almaarefa University offered to host a Taekwondo championship in which local schools participated with free access for people from the schools and the local community who wanted to participate in the event [10].

Sports Day

Almaarefa University organized the Sports Day with the purpose of generating a culture of health and well-being in the people of the local community where children from local schools were the protagonists of the different activities carried out accompanied by their parents who were observing the event carried out by the university, Access for the event was free of charged [11].

The Center for Social Responsibility of the University, in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Respiratory Care, with the purpose of offering a basic health service to students, staff and the local community, participates in an awareness campaign on the causes of lung cancer and how to prevent it [25].

Free online meeting on "Drugs .. The road to death"

UM has organized a free online meeting on "Drugs .. The road to death" within the awareness program on the dangers of drugs with the purpose of contributing to the health of all people, providing information about the damage caused by drugs and the guidance that can be received to get out of a situation of addiction in addition to creating awareness in people, UM considers these campaigns important since health is a service for all people [26].

The meeting witnessed an active presence of members of the community, in which an enriching discussion about the history of vaccines and their importance was discussed with His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Jaber Al-Yamani - Dean of College of Pharmacy. Additionally, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sunaidi - Professor of pharmaceutical biotechnology at King Saud University who is specialized in studying vaccines and biological drugs talked about methods of vaccines manufacturing. Saudi AlZheimer Disease Association’s annual campaign, which is held in September, aims to raise awareness of the disease.  Al Maarifa University firmly believes in its social commitment. Therefore, Al Maarifa participated with the Saudi Alzheimer Disease Association in activating the awareness campaign in September 2020. Under the slogan (#W_didn’t_forget_what_you_gave). The University’s participation was represented in spreading awareness messages to spread community awareness of the disease, and how to deal with people who have it.In appreciation of the University’s social role, the Association honored the University’s efforts in recognition for serving its community.

World Cancer Day.

The campaign sheds light on chronic diseases (diabetes, blood pressure, osteoporosis) diseases, renal failure, hepatitis, and obesity).

The campaign aims to educate the community about Parkinson’s disease, its symptoms, its impact on human health and ways to prevent it. Weight, height, diabetes and blood pressure were measured for visitors and health education was provided to them.

World Autism Day.

Al-Maarefa University hosted the Autism Families Association in the association’s annual meeting organized with the University’s Social Responsibility Unit, on Wednesday 03/04/2019 AD, in the Great Hall of Diriyah at the university headquarters.

The honorable ceremony began with the royal anthem with the voice of the Society’s students, after which fragrant verses from the Holy Quran were recited, and then the Chairperson of the Society’s Board of Directors, Her Highness Princess Samira Al-Faisal Al Saud, gave an introductory speech about the Society and its history, and then Dr. Nasser Al-Jarallah, Dean of the College of Applied Sciences gave a welcoming speech to the Society And the importance of caring for the nation’s youth with special needs, and the association thanked the association for their efforts and concern. After that, the association’s students participated in a play entitled “I am a human being.” After that, Her Highness Princess Dr. Fahda bint Abdulaziz Al Saud, General Supervisor, presented a paper entitled “Autism Qualities.” Dr. Hadia presented Al-Harbi, founder of the program, an introduction to the recreational sports program held in the association.

Al-Maarefa University, through the Social Responsibility Unit, participated in an awareness campaign on the occasion of the “International Day of Asthma” at the Sahara Mall in Riyadh during the period 05/07/2019 AD to 08/05/2019 AD. The Knowledge Pavilion hosted large groups of Sahara Mall visitors.

The campaign aims to inform the Saudi community about the most important medicines that are used for asthma patients, the mechanism of their uses and the difference between each medicine. Weight, height, diabetes and blood pressure were measured. Educational instructions and advice were also provided with the aim of raising awareness about asthma, methods of prevention, and the need to take recommended medicines.

The campaign also dealt with several aspects, including dealing with cases of sunstroke and the appropriate times to go out. The campaign also included a special corner for knowing the ideal weight, height, diabetes and blood pressure measurements. It also included a travel health corner. And poison prevention, and awareness and educational brochures were distributed to visitors.

Knowledge faculties participate in a vaccination campaign against influenza virus in Al-Othaim Mall

With the participation of Knowledge Colleges for Science and Technology represented by the Health Education Team, the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with its health centers in the city of Riyadh, organized a vaccination campaign against the influenza virus on Friday and Saturday: 27-28/10/2017 AD, at Al-Othaim Commercial Center. 

This is in line with the colleges' policy through its responsibility towards community and individual service, which aims to raise awareness, immunize the community, and actively contribute to protection from influenza and infectious diseases. 

The event also included conducting medical examinations such as sugar and blood pressure, introducing the most important drugs and drinks that may cause kidney failure, providing medical advice and tips by health doctors and participating students, in addition to distributing health brochures.

This event was well received by the visitors of the center.

His Highness the Governor of Diriyah inaugurates a capacity building course for the Healthy Cities Program in the Faculties of Al Maarefa.

On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, His Highness Prince Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, Governor of Diriyah Governorate and head of the Diriyah Health City Program, inaugurated a capacity building and skills development course for the employees of the Diriyah Health City Program, at the Business Center at Al Maarifa Colleges.

His Highness also signed with His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Colleges of Al Maarefa, Dr. Zaid bin Muhammad Al-Zamil, a community partnership agreement for community service, which is the first community agreement for the Healthy Cities Program after its restructuring.

His Highness thanked the program’s employees for their efforts during the past period, calling on everyone to continue working towards community service. His Highness also thanked Al Maarifa Colleges for implementing this course, and for the agreement that will allow the development of the program and the service of the Diriyah community.

For his part, the Coordinator of Diriyah City, Fahd bin Abdul Rahman Al-Awwad, explained that the course lasted for two days and all program employees participated in it, and it comes after the program completed the reformation of the main committee and executive committees, and the registration of Diriyah city in the network of healthy cities of the World Health Organization as a first stage, and work is underway. To complete the requirements of the second phase of registration, which includes achieving the standards of the World Health Organization that are directly related to the community, in preparation for obtaining the final registration, indicating that the course targeted the members of the Main Committee, members of the Executive Committees and members of the Community Participation Committee and introducing them to the future work and activities of the program.

Health impact Since its inception, UM has made an impressive advancement on many health fronts to meet the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) and to meet the health targets as per Saudi Vision 2030. UM believes that progress must be accelerated, in particular in local, national and international levels to reduce the highest burden of diseases of the disadvantaged and vulnerable population across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

The initiative is currently being implemented. AlMaarefa University (UM), through the Social Responsibility Unit, has made advanced progress in reducing health disparities and literate against health, illness and preventable diseases. U M believes that healthy lives and promotion of well-being should be for all at all ages. · UM organizes awareness lectures and trainings that are related to Good Health & First Aid to expand the horizon of serving students and beneficiaries to provide them with distinguished services.
