Mission:

To achieve excellence in learning and teaching at the Almaarefa, by preparing strategic plans, policies and programs in teaching and learning and supervising their implementation, and transferring and localizing the best global initiatives to develop the level of educational practices and improve student learning at the university.

Vision:

The Education Center is embodied in becoming one of the pioneering models in developing university education.

The Director's Message:

The education center is one of the pillars of the educational process at the university with its multiple roles of planning, implementing, and following-up activities for ensuring the quality of the educational process, developing and supporting it. The center occupies an important place within the university’s goals and its strategic plan, for the services provided by this center within the framework of a set of local and international quality standards and objectives that aim to raise Productive sufficiency, keeping up with the requirements of the times and facing its challenges, by employing the university's capabilities, capabilities and the distinguished experiences of the university's employees and members of its teaching staff in all fields and disciplines at the university to achieve these goals.

The center provides all services that enable faculty members and students to make the most of the resources and environment provided by the university to make the educational process an enjoyable, rich, and effective experience. The educational center provides its various services through its various units, which are happy to receive requests and contributions from faculty members by requesting or providing consultations, training, and various services

Objectives:

  1. Follow-up to the following of the education center in the university’s strategic plan for learning and education, and to enhance cooperation in the implementation procedures it requires and the development of all processes and procedures.
  2. Transferring and settling the best international practices in learning and teaching, and managing them according to a pioneering institutional vision and global professional specifications.
  3. Creating quality initiatives and developing plans and initiatives necessary to develop the level of educational practices at the university and improve student learning at the university.
  4. Follow-up and evaluation of academic programs, evaluation of learning and teaching outcomes, preparation of studies, and reports to analyze the university's educational reality and anticipate its future in light of recent changes and developments.
  5. Building partnerships and building bridges of communication with relevant local, regional, and international institutions in order to develop learning and education at the university.

Structure and Functions of the Education Centre:

The Education Centre is the body which will be responsible for ensuring that the learning environment at Almaarefa University is providing the most advanced and up-to-date learning opportunities for its learners and is continuously improving.

Duties and responsibilities:

The unit will be responsible of:

  • Following the implementation of the assessment and evaluation strategy of the curriculum to ensure that the assessment and evaluation activities the used are fit for purpose (valid, reliable & objectives)
  • Establishing and maintaining an electronic question bank through an assessment committee
  • Ensuring that the assessment tools used follow the recommended format and quality standards through an assessment committee
  • Proposing training activities pertinent to assessment and evaluation in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of assessment and evaluation in collaboration with the research unit
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of assessment and evaluation to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of assessment and evaluation
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The Continuing Professional Development Unit 

Duties and responsibilities:

The unit will be responsible of:

  • Organizing and conducting activities in the field of faculty development for the teaching staff of the college based on needs assessment and in response to recommendations by chairs of other units
  • Organizing and supervising the implementation of training activities offered by the various departments of the college in collaboration with the respective provider

  • Organizing and conducting activities in continuing professional development offered to students, health care providers and educators
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the field of continuing professional development in collaboration with the research unit
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in continuing professional development to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of continuing professional development
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The curriculum unit:

Duties and responsibilities:

The Curriculum unit will be responsible for:

Following the curriculum blueprint and course syllabi to make sure that they are properly documented and that they are appropriate, up-to-date and are aligned with the competences of the Saudi MED

a. Taking care of review processes in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders. Those processes include changes recommended after surveys and reports and those necessitated by new developments and trends in the field of health professions education

b. Proposing training activities pertinent to curriculum design and review in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson

c. Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in curriculum and course design and review to those who ask for it or need it

d. Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of curriculum design and review in collaboration with the research unit

e. Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the curriculum design and review

f. Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The Independent Learning Student Support Unit:

Duties and responsibilities:

The unit will be responsible for:

  • Following the implementation of the teaching and learning strategy of the curriculum to ensure that the learning approaches (SPICES) are appropriately applied and that the teaching and learning situations used are fit for purpose
  • Providing the support needed for the establishment, maintenance and effective utilization of the virtual learning environment in collaboration of the e-learning and educational technology unit
  • Proposing training activities pertinent to teaching and learning in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of teaching and learning in collaboration with the research chairperson
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in teaching and learning to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of teaching and learning
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

Continuing Education and Skills Development Program Policy

First: The purpose of the policy

This policy aims to establish rules, instructions, and procedures for continuous education and skills development activities provided by the colleges. These activities should assist in achieving the colleges' goals of offering continuous education and skill development.

Second: Guidelines

    • Programs and activities of continuous education and skills development should comply with the regulations and conditions specified in the policy for organizing events, meetings, and lectures.
    • The colleges provide continuous education and skills development programs and activities to their staff, including faculty members, administrators, and students. These programs can be designed, prepared, and implemented within the colleges or through external sources.
    • The colleges also offer continuous education and skills development programs and activities to the local community, either within the colleges or by collaborating with external sources.
    • It is permissible for the colleges to conduct continuous education and skills development programs outside their premises.
    • The colleges may offer these programs and activities with or without financial charges, according to this policy.
    • Registration fees for any program or activity of continuous education and skills development will be determined by the General Supervisor of the colleges, considering the nature and duration of each program or activity.
    • Approval from relevant official authorities outside the colleges, such as the Ministry of Education, the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, or others, is required if the activity or program necessitates it.
    • A dedicated financial account and center will be allocated for continuous education and skills development, with the following considerations:
  1. The entity responsible for supervising and managing the financial center for continuous education and skills development programs will be determined by the General Supervisor of the colleges.
  2. All financial flows related to the programs and activities of continuous education will be deposited and disbursed through this account.
  3. Expenditures from the continuous education account will be allocated for various purposes, such as scientific material preparation incentives, trainers' incentives, necessary equipment expenses, advertising and promotion of the programs, incentives for organizers from college staff or others, and similar costs, as determined by the General Supervisor of the colleges.

As a Higher Education Institution we have specific equality duties that also require us to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations. It is also our responsibility to publish equality information (data) on an annual basis, and review and publish specific and measurable equality objectives every four years.

Scope

The policy is applicable to all staff (which includes for the purposes of this policy and for ease of reference, consultants, contractors, volunteers, casual workers and agency workers), students and applicants to work or study at the University. The principles of non-discrimination and equality of opportunity also apply to the way in which staff and students should treat each other, visitors, contractors, service providers, suppliers and any other persons associated with the functions of the University.

Aims of the Policy

The University’s aim is to promote equality of opportunity for all, through the following objectives:

  • Assessing the impact on equality in our policies, procedures and practices.
  • Having an effective data monitoring and analysis process.
  • Involving staff, students and other stakeholders in the development and delivery of our equality objectives.
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion through internal and external communications.
  • Ensuring that managers and staff take part in equality training and in particular those who have responsibility for recruitment and selection.
  • Ensuring staff and university student support services are, as far as reasonably possible, accessible to all.
  • Ensuring that both existing staff and students, as well as those who seek to apply to work and study with us, are treated fairly and are judged solely on merit and by reference to their skills and abilities.
  • Ensuring that staff, students and their representatives are provided with appropriate forums to discuss equality, diversity and inclusion issues and raise any concerns.
  • Ensuring that all contractors and service providers operating on behalf of the University are aware of this policy and are expected to adhere to it.
  • Complying with its legal obligations.

Sanctions

A failure to comply with the principles set out in this policy may be considered to be a disciplinary offence, and will be addressed through the relevant procedures.

Complaints

Any cases of discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation will be taken very seriously by the University. Any member of staff or student found guilty of unlawful discrimination or harassment will be subject to disciplinary action. Appropriate action will be taken where possible if any member of the public, visitor or service provider involved in discrimination or harassment. Staff, students or other parties who make a complaint of discrimination have the right to do so without fear of victimization, and the University will make every effort to ensure that any complaints are dealt with promptly and fairly.

Almaarefa University Admission Non Discrimination Policy

Almaarefa University admits qualified students of any age, gender, race, disability, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, gender identity, race, disability, color, religion, or national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.
