The Nursing program at College of Applied Science in Al Maarefa Colleges, aims to prepare students to meet the challenges of nursing practice in the ever changing and increasingly demanding health care delivery system in Saudi Arabia.

The Nursing program aims to:

  •  Fulfill the main mission and objectives of Al-Maarefa Colleges.
  • Maintain consistency with employment needs nationally and internationally, while providing the core knowledge in the respective disciplines.
  • Conform with the respective requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education
  • Remain consistent with international standards and guidelines.
Degree requirements:
  1. The successful completion of a minimum of four years of study (135 credit hours) for Nursing. This is by successfully completing a number of accredited units from the General Curriculum at Al-Maarefa University, a number of accredited units from the compulsory courses taught at the college of Applied Sciences as well a number of accredited units from the chosen discipline.
  2. Successfully complete clinical training during the residency year (no less than 48 weeks of training 2 credit hours). During this year, the student will practice the knowledge and skills he has gained through clinical practice in a hospital.
Preparatory Level

Students starting in the first year study preparatory courses that enhance their skills through intense English courses and other courses that improve their communication skills and computer skills. To complete the graduation requirements for BSc. in Nursing, the students are required to successfully pass a total of 135 credit hours that are distributed over 8 levels (4 years)

Internship/Practical Training Requirements

Students in the Nursing department are required to complete a 48 weeks of internship/practical training as a requirement in an area related to Nursing at an accredited training organization.

Curriculum Phases:

The study plan is divided into three stages, as follows:

The first Phase: one year (two semesters) introductory courses in which general subjects are taught, in addition to the English language. 

The second Phase: three years (six semesters) in which Natural & Relevant Health Science Courses and Nursing Core courses are taught.

The third Phase: One calendar year of nursing internship. (not less than 48 weeks of training, 2 credit hours) that the student spends in different departments in hospitals accredited by the university.
