On the morning of Thursday 3/23/1438 AH, corresponding to 12/22/2016 AD, the Colleges of Knowledge organized a special celebration on the occasion of International Arabic Language Day, in which a number of distinguished guests, faculty members and distinguished students participated, after preparation that lasted more than two weeks, carried out by a team. Work for this celebration is headed by His Excellency Dr. Marwan bin Ahmed Al-Fahhad, Head of the General Preparation Department.
The ceremony began with a welcome speech delivered by Dr. Hassan Al-Naamna, in which he welcomed the participating guests and the gentlemen in attendance. Then the student Ammar Al-Murshed recited fragrant verses from the Book of God the Wise, followed by the colleges’ speech, which was delivered by His Excellency Dr. Fahd bin Muhammad Al-Zamil, on behalf of His Excellency the General Supervisor of the Colleges, then Dr. Ismail Khadr delivered a speech entitled “Respect for the sacred tongue is part of self-respect.” The celebration also included singing participation, presented by vocalist Abdul Karim Al-Mousa.
The guest of the meeting, His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdul Karim Bakkar, the writer and Islamic thinker, participated in a speech entitled “Arabic is Our Life,” in which he spoke about the necessity of adhering to the Arabic language and raising generations by strengthening their Arabic language, the dangers it faces, and not obliterating it by teaching young people at the beginning of their education in the English language.
The guest of the celebration, the poet Abdullah Al-Bahlal, also participated in several poems that attracted the attention of the audience, ranging from celebrating the Arabic language to poetry in Najd and a poem in which he touched on the virtue of women in our lives.
After that, the audience listened to two poems delivered by student Omar Al-Shehri, the first about what was happening in Aleppo and the second in which he talked about Baghdad. The female section of students also participated in a speech entitled “The Importance of the Arabic Language in Understanding the Qur’an and Sunnah,” presented by Professor Mona Al-Hudayf.
Then came the participation of His Excellency Dr. Haider Al-Badrani, the cultural advisor, by mentioning the aesthetics of the Arabic language and the ease, precision and eloquence that characterize it. He went on to mention some wonderful examples that demonstrate the aesthetics of the Arabic language, and some verses of poetry that won the audience’s approval.
After that, the student, Jalal Al-Akhras, participated in a speech about the Arabization of medical terminology, where he touched on the necessity of teaching medicine in the Arabic language instead of learning it in the English language.
Then the meeting ended with His Excellency the Vice Dean of Colleges for Academic Affairs, Dr. Zakaria bin Abdullah Al-Zamil, and His Excellency Dr. Marwan bin Ahmed Al-Fahhad, head of the work team, honoring the participating guests and taking souvenir photos on this precious occasion.
