Anaesthesia Technology Program is dedicated for preparing students for continuous learning to become competent members of the healthcare team at the different hospitals. The Program is also committed to graduate trained anesthesia technology specialist to assist anesthetists in providing secure and high-quality healthcare for surgical patients.

Overview

Anaesthesia Technology Programs adopts graduating anaesthesia technology specialists who provide an outstanding level of healthcare, keeping up with the standards of the Saudi Society of Anaesthesia and The American Society of Anaesthesia Technologists & Technicians ASATT, as well as the best standards of medical practical in anaesthesia. Anesthesia Technology is one of the complex majors as it is heavily relied upon in operating theatres. An anaesthesia technologist is the specialist who helps prepare anaesthesia equipment before operations are performed. They prepare, examines and operates the monitoring equipment during the operation and ensures that the necessary medications are made available and requirement met during operations. Student help anaesthesiology doctors in all the steps of general, spinal and local anaesthesia in variety of clinical settings including: interventional and diagnostic radiology, labour and delivery units, intensive care units, emergency rooms, outpatient procedure suites and ambulatory surgery centres and in cases of emergency resuscitation. Anaesthesia Technologists is responsible of IV team services and provide the highest standard of care for all patients, paediatric and adult that requiring Intravenous cannulation.

Objective

  • To train the student on anesthetising the patient basic skills under the supervision of the relevant Anaesthetist.
  • To train the student on advanced Anaesthesia technologies under the supervision of the highly qualified Anaesthesia Technologists.
  • To link the academic study to the practical experience.
  • To provide sufficient training for the students to participate in all the tasks assigned to them in the future.
  • To assess the quality of the academic and clinical study on an ongoing basis to ensure having excellent educational outputs.

Curriculum phases

Anesthesia technology plan divided into three phases:

Phase 1: One-year student cover general science courses such as Mathematics and Computer skills, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Biostatistics, Islamic studies, and Arabic language in addition to an intensive English program, that strengthens the students’ English language skills.

Phase 2: Three years students taught medical and natural sciences in addition to Anaesthesia technology theoretical and practical courses.

Phase 3: One-year student cover all required field experience in recognized treasury hospital during an Internship program.
