About the Department

The Emergency Medical Services Department at the College of Applied Sciences at Almaarefa University aims to qualify and train students in providing immediate and effective healthcare in medical emergencies. The department distinguishes itself with a comprehensive educational program that includes theoretical lectures and intensive practical exercises in realistic environments. This ensures that students acquire the necessary skills to handle a variety of medical emergency cases.

The curriculum in the department includes studies on first aid, critical care management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, as well as wound and burn care. It also covers responding to medical emergencies in public locations and hospitals. Additionally, the department provides students with opportunities for clinical training in various hospitals and healthcare facilities, where they practice their medical skills under the supervision and guidance of certified doctors and specialists.

Furthermore, the program encourages scientific research and the use of evidence-based practices to enhance emergency medical services. This contributes to improving the quality of healthcare services provided and fosters the development of the overall health community.

Program Goals

  • Equipping students with essential first aid skills such as bleeding control, wound and burn care, and fracture stabilization.
  • Equipping students with skills related to proper techniques for carrying and transporting patients and the injured.
  • Providing an educational experience capable of enhancing students' cognitive and practical abilities, aiming to facilitate the development of decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Equipping students with cognitive skills and diverse communication abilities that motivate them to succeed in their professional lives through teamwork, active participation, critical thinking, ethical behavior, responsibility, and having an impactful role in society.
  • Providing students with both basic and advanced skills related to life preservation.
  • Encouraging scientific research and utilizing its outcomes to advance evidence-based practices in emergency medical services.

Degree Requirements

  • Successfully completing at least four years of study (145 credit hours in the emergency medical services specialty) so that the student successfully completes the accredited study units from general education courses at Almaarefa University, a number of approved study units from the compulsory courses in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, and a number of accredited study units form the Emergency Medical Services specialty courses.
  • Completing clinical training in the internship year (no less than 48 weeks of training), during which the student practices the knowledge and skills he has learned in his studies through practical clinical application in a hospital.
